About 4 channel NVR
Buy a 4 Channel NVR for a Small IP CCTV System
A 4 channel NVR is designed to record up to four compatible IP camera streams. It is a compact choice for homes, small shops, clinics, offices and cabins where four carefully positioned cameras can cover the main entrance, indoor activity, cash counter and parking or rear access. Compare the products above by specification because channel count alone does not confirm camera compatibility.
Before ordering, plan every camera position and decide whether four channels leave enough room for future needs. Use our CCTV camera-count planning guide to identify blind spots and priority areas.
4 Channel PoE NVR or Non-PoE NVR?
A model with built-in PoE ports may power compatible cameras and carry their data through the same Ethernet cable. This can simplify a small installation. Check the exact number of PoE ports, total power budget and supported standards on the product page. A non-PoE recorder uses a separate network or PoE switch, which can be useful when cameras are installed away from the recorder.
Use good-quality CAT6 cable and follow the supported cable-distance and network design requirements. Long runs, weak connectors and insufficient PoE power can affect camera stability.
Important Specifications to Compare
Resolution support: match the NVR’s supported recording resolution with each IP camera.
Incoming bandwidth: allow for the combined bitrate of all four cameras, especially at higher frame rates.
Compression: compatible H.265 or smart-codec modes can help reduce storage consumption.
Hard-disk support: check SATA bays and maximum supported capacity; estimate retention with our CCTV storage-days guide.
Remote viewing: verify the supported mobile app, desktop software, user permissions and network requirements.
Compatibility: ONVIF may support basic cross-brand video, but audio, events and analytics can vary.
When to Select More Than Four Channels
If the plan already needs four cameras, choosing a recorder with spare capacity can avoid replacing it during expansion. Compare 8 channel NVRs or browse the complete IP NVR range. Pair the chosen recorder with specification-matched IP CCTV cameras and confirm features for the exact models before purchase.
